Pear and Ginger Crumble

Pear & Ginger Crumble is one of those cozy, transitional bakes that bridges the gap between late summer and early fall. And I have to admit something right up front: I never liked pears growing up. It’s a textural thing — the grittiness always grossed me out. Even in fruit cocktail, I’d pick around them. My husband, though, is a huge fan of pears, and with pear season arriving, I thought adding them to a crumble might be the perfect way to reintroduce them to my palate and see if I liked them any better.

Traditionally, crumble is a very British dessert — simple fruit baked under a buttery, oat‑speckled topping. But this version has a lovely American twist: the oat‑heavy crumble (British versions often use more flour), the warm spice profile, and the bright pop of fresh ginger. If you like ginger, fresh is definitely the way to go here. It perfumes the pears, adds warmth, and gives the crumble a modern, bakery‑style lift.

The pears soften beautifully in the oven, turning jammy and tender under the crumble topping. And after making a pan and trying them again, I’m happy to say I enjoyed eating the crumble. The leftovers went straight to my husband’s workplace to be polished off, and I received an empty dish back — along with a request for more.

This Pear & Ginger Crumble is cozy, simple, and perfect for the season. Serve it warm with ice cream, whipped cream, or just a spoon. It’s the kind of bake that feels like home.

If you make it, I’d love to see your creations — share your photos on Facebook with #thequiltedbakery so I can admire your beautiful bakes.

Happy baking, friends.
