Apple Crumble

If last month taught me anything, it’s that crumble season is officially here. The Pear & Ginger Crumble I shared was such a hit — not only at home, but with my husband’s coworkers. The empty dish he brought home (along with the “could she make more?” request) was all the encouragement I needed. And when apple crumble was requested as one of the next recipes in the October Apple & Pumpkin Series, I knew it was time.

So here it is — a cozy, classic Apple Crumble that feels like fall in a baking dish.

One of my favorite things about apple crumble is how simple it is. Truly. It’s one of the quickest desserts to throw together, especially if you’re short on time or just want something warm and comforting without fuss. Peel, slice, toss, sprinkle, bake — and suddenly your kitchen smells like cinnamon, butter, and nostalgia.

To make the crumble extra special, I like to use 2–3 types of apples. Mixing varieties gives you a lovely blend of textures and flavors: some apples soften into a jammy filling, while others hold their shape and add a little bite. Honeycrisp, Gala, and Granny Smith make a beautiful trio, but use whatever you have on hand — crumble is wonderfully forgiving.

And now for the icing on the proverbial cake… I still had a bit of leftover Toffee Sauce from the Chocolate Sticky Toffee Pudding Cups. So, when I served the crumble warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, I drizzled that glossy toffee sauce over the top. Needless to say, that was a hit. The warm apples, crisp topping, cold ice cream, and buttery toffee sauce came together in the most indulgent, cozy way.

This Apple Crumble is the kind of bake that feels right at home in the October Apple & Pumpkin Series — simple, comforting, and perfect for sharing. Whether you’re baking for your family, your coworkers, or just yourself on a chilly evening, this crumble is a guaranteed crowd‑pleaser.

As we settle deeper into autumn, I hope this recipe brings a bit of warmth to your kitchen and a bit of comfort to your week. Stay snug, keep the oven warm, and I’ll see you next time with another cozy fall bake. Don't forget to tag your bakes with #thequiltedbakery. Cheers, and happy baking!
